Somerville welcomes all to celebrate the last weeks of winter with a ‘Fire & Ice’ style afternoon & evening. Somerville Arts Council surely knows how to leave an epic mark on the end of the season!

This weekend on Saturday, March 1st, in Union Square Plaza, the awesome festivities will begin at 3:00pm, lasting until 6:00pm. Gaze in awe at the talented A Different Spin fire spinners brightening up the plaza and savor the night with their glowing, lively performance. Take it down to a cooler notch with Brilliant Ice Sculptures’ Don Chapelle, getting an exclusive look at him in action carving his gorgeous masterpieces right before your eyes. This is a show you certainly do not want to miss. Family-friendly crafts and activities will include “ice bowling,” SVB’s sand art and Next Step Living Inc.’s “recycled lava lamp craft.”

Scrumptious delights will be sold outdoors in the plaza, in addition to some restaurants offering their hungry guests awesome specials. While the night is still young, keep warm outside with a cozy and delicious cup of Black Magic Coffee. Take it indoors at Casa B and enjoy one of their soups: caldo gallego, lentil and sancocho. Or maybe you’d like to relish the cold a bit longer with a luscious homemade ice cream sandwich from “Boston’s original ice cream sandwich truck,” Frozen Hoagie. If you’d rather spice up your night with some kick and zest, Ebi Sushi will be busy preparing their delectable offered special for the evening, a spicy Volcano Roll.

What’s a celebration without some tasty cocktails to accompany the fun? The Independent will be offering its unique “Fire Walk With Me” cocktail, and El Potro Mexican Grill will also be preparing a fun concoction. You’ll just have to go to find out what it is!
This winter dazzler should not be missed.
