Summer is a time to refresh and rejuvenate. Whether it’s going for a morning run on the beach, swimming laps in the pool or eating a fresh watermelon salad, the summer season screams “fit” and “in shape.” Start off the summer right with our list of fun ways to get yourself in shape in the Bean, ladies! Bathing suit season has already begun, and the rest of the summer excitedly awaits with barbecues and boat parties.
When it comes to gaining a healthy shape and highlighting the optimum version of yourself, Joonbug’s pal Gregg D’Andrea knows the lowdown. In other words, going to Boston’s very best “Fitness Guru,” gstar himself, is seriously the perfect place to go for awesome classes, personal training and spinning with our favorite all-around fitness genius.
The GSTAR team practices an amazing philosophy: “training is not about clipboards and tracking numbers. It’s about maximizing the relationship between your brain and body.” Their spinning classes are an intense workout, but the results are well worth the sweat, motivation and hard work. Gstar was bestowed the well-deserved title of “Best Spinning Instructor” by Improper Bostonian, even though this great reputation reaches far past the Boston area.

Kickboxing at Healthworks for Women
In addition to being a great self-defense mechanism, kickboxing is an overall beneficial workout. Healthworks for Women has three gyms in the Boston area. The Chestnut Hill location has kickboxing; while the other gyms offer cardio kickboxing and cardio strike classes. These classes are designed to tone and strengthen your body…a major factor of getting into shape. The difference between sole kickboxing and these two classes? Kickboxing uses a punching bag, while cardio strike and cardio kickboxing use boxing movements (such as shadow boxing).
